Empowering local communities
• We provide the development framework, funds and management support, but leave the implementation (planning, decision making and execution) as much as possible to locals from the benefitting community
• Our aid is not for “free”: it involves clear commitments from the person or community receiving the funds and is designed to avoid aid-dependency
• Initiatives by Kamitei are designed as long term partnerships
• Kamitei’s staff in Tanzania consists of well educated local volunteers who are key to making our approach viable
Business-minded approach to development aid
• Thorough on-the-ground due diligence before a commitment is made
• Strong focus on results/output: our activities need to be effective and efficient
• Our financial contributions are performance-based: we only invest if the person or community receiving the funds fulfills their commitment
Maximum transparency and strong local control
• Maximum transparency regarding Kamitei’s operations and financials
• Strict reporting discipline per activity on operational and financial performance
• Annual financial audits by independent certified auditors
• Regular field trips by Kamitei staff to review progress and compliance with commitments and to do sanity checks on reported data
Low overhead costs
• The Board members do not receive any compensation for their work and all staff are volunteers
• We do not have expensive offices, cars or other fixed assets
• We do not use expensive advertising campaigns to raise funds
